Is it time for a new AC system? Or looking to replace your old one? The first question that may come to mind is Central Air or Ductless Air-conditioning, but what is the difference?
A ductless air conditioner is very similar to a central air conditioning. They both have a condenser that sits on the outside of the home and an evaporator air handle inside the home. The Coolant passes between both units carrying the heat from indoors to the outdoor unit where it is released.
Here are a few things to consider
Ductwork – ductless air conditioners are about 30% cheaper to install than central air conditioning. There is no mess and no construction. If you have ductwork in your home already it will be more cost effective to go with a central air system.
The Size of your home – If you have a larger home, a ductless system may not have enough power to cool a large home. For example, if your home is 25, 00 square feet and up you may want to go with central air. Central Air has more power to cool a larger space and the entire home. If you are looking to separately control each room, then a ductless air conditioning system is the right one for you. If you have a room in your home that gets unreasonably warm in the summer, ductless air conditioners are available in single or multizone units for multiple rooms.
The look – If you want an A/C that looks good in your home, then you may want to choose a central air conditioner. They are either outside the home or stored in a hidden place inside the home and distribute air through low-profile vents. A ductless air conditioner is visible on the wall which may not be appealing to most. If you are limited on wall space there is also the option for a ceiling cassette for a sleeker look.
Efficiency – for central air, cool air has to travel through the ductwork before it’s distributed in your space which may lead to loss of air and higher energy bills. A ductless AC does not have to travel through ductwork which means they are more energy efficient.
